Automatic chlorine generators, more commonly referred to as saltwater pools, are a great addition to any pool located in our around Dallas, TX. However, there are a lot of misconceptions about how they work and what they do and Swim Carefree is here to clear up some of the misunderstandings swimming around them.
First, there are some cost benefits to running saltwater pool. They eliminate the need to purchase sanitizing chemicals because the on-site production of the sanitizer in a saltwater pool is produced automatically. A chlorinated pool’s chlorine is added manually on an ongoing basis. In a saltwater pool, the chlorine is created through a regenerative process.
This happens when the water in the pool is converted to a mild saline solution of sodium chloride. Next, a chlorine generator is added to the pool’s filtration system to circulate the water, and chlorination occurs. The pool salt is dissolved in the pool water and the sodium chloride is transformed into a sanitizer, killing bacteria, viruses, algae and anything else in the water. The chlorine generator uses the salt to produce a chlorine gas that dissolves into the water – keeping the water clean.
